CPAWS welcomes support for a historic conservation investment in Budget 2018

Ottawa – CPAWS welcomes support from 116 federal MPs and Senators who have signed a letter to the Minister of Finance asking for a historic investment in protecting Canada’s land, freshwater and ocean in the upcoming federal budget. CPAWS, along with other members of the Green Budget Coalition, have been recommending an investment of at least $1.4 billion over three years, and $466 million per year thereafter to deliver on Canada’s commitment to protect at least 17% of our land and freshwater, and 10% of our oceans by 2020, and to plan for what nature and people need to thrive in the long term. With only three years left to 2020, we need a major investment now, to deliver on our promise. “We are pleased to see support from so many parliamentarians for a large investment in protecting the health of Canada’s land, freshwater and ocean environments,” says Éric Hébert-Daly, CPAWS’ National Executive Director. “This growing momentum is in line with the generational opportunity we have right now to safeguard the natural environment that we all depend on for our well-being.” -30- For inquiries, contact media@localhost Media Coverage Globe and Mail – Senators, MPs call for $1.4-billion in conservation funding from federal government Le Devoir – La protection des milieux naturels a raison de la partisanerie Toronto Star – Editorial: MPs make compelling case for historic investment in conservation
