Protect Gatineau Park

Gatineau Park is home to the greatest number of endangered species of any park in the province of Quebec. Stretching across more than 361 square kilometres of rich and diverse habitats, it is one of the largest and most ecologically important parks in the Ottawa Valley.
Without the proper legislative protections afforded to national parks, Gatineau Park is already seeing many areas being lost to housing projects, road creation and the expansion of recreational areas, threatening it’s ecological viability and unique biodiversity.
This is why CPAWS-OV are fighting to have the Gatineau Park granted full legislative protection, including boundaries set in an act of parliament.
‘Conservation Park’ Doesn’t Guarantee Protection
Gatineau Park is home to over 90 endangered plant and 50 endangered animal species, and is one of the most visited parks in Canada.
While it is the conservation park of Canada’s capital, its protection is not guaranteed.
The boundaries of Gatineau Park, which belongs to all Canadians, are not inscribed in an Act of Parliament. This means sections of the park can be removed, developed, or disposed of without parliamentary authorization.
