QUEBEC: Take action to protect Gatineau Park
Gatineau park offers a unique wilderness experience to residents of the National Captial area: the opportunity to enjoy the sight of a of a fleeting deer, the howl of a wolf and the haunting call of the loon.
The Federal government has indicated that it intends to introduce legislation to better protect Gatineau Park.
Unlike other parks in Canada, Gatineau Park lacks formal protection. For example, the park boundaries have never been set in law, which means that park land may be sold or used to construct roads, colleges and other facilities that are incompatible with a protected area.
