OTTAWA – May 1, 2014 –  The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) and KEEN Canada Outdoor are pleased to announce a new partnership  in support of  protecting our country’s  spectacular natural parks.

All across Canada, CPAWS is working with local communities, First Nations, other conservation organizations and businesses to encourage governments to complete networks of parks and other protected areas, and to make sure existing parks are well managed for the future.

CPAWS works to:
• create new parks and protected areas;
• ensure that parks and protected areas, once established, are managed to protect their ecological integrity forever;
• ensure parks and protected areas are connected together so wildlife can move between them in response to changing climatic conditions; and
• ensure industrial activity is prohibited in all Canada's parks and protected areas.

Starting this May at select retailers across Canada, KEEN, a hybrid outdoor & casual footwear manufacturer, will generously donate $5 to CPAWS with purchase of each pair of KEEN’s popular CNX line of footwear, up to a maximum of $25,000 in 2014. KEEN is also encouraging its retail partners in the program to donate an equal amount to the CPAWS for each pair of CNX footwear sold in their stores.

“This is a perfect partnership for nature,” said Eric Hebert-Daly, CPAWS National Executive Director.  “CPAWS places high value on connecting Canadians to wilderness – on reinforcing the intrinsic benefits of getting outside and enjoying nature.  KEEN is a manufacturer of footwear and clothing specifically designed to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts that shares our values. We are thrilled that KEEN is joining us in helping to keep our parks healthy for all future generations of Canadians to enjoy,” adds Hebert-Daly.

Keen Canada is a leading supplier of high quality outdoor footwear that is committed to working towards building stronger communities and a healthier planet. KEEN stands behind their partners, actively working to inspire responsible outdoor participation, and land and water conservation.

"CPAWS is a great organization and we're excited to see the positive impacts the partnership will have on Canada’s parks," said Heather Taylor, Marketing Director, Keen Canada. "Beyond protecting our Canadian wilderness, we believe in the power of a brand to inspire others to create positive change.”
