Workshop Series & Online Survey: Forestry on Alberta’s Eastern Slopes
In October a series of 5 workshops will be conducted around Southwestern Alberta to determine what Albertan’s would like for forestry to look like in the eastern slopes. These workshops will explore public perceptions around what forestry in Alberta’s Eastern Slope Forests could look like. We want to hear what you and/or your members envision forests and forestry to look like in Alberta’s southern Eastern Slopes.

Stop Castle Logging Group Disappointed At Meeting with Minister of ESRD Calgary
Calgary, AB – Environmental groups and business representatives of the Stop Castle Logging Group met with Diana McQueen, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development today to discuss the Castle Special Place. The groups were putting forward a request to stop the scheduled logging in the Castle and protect the area as a Wildland and Provincial Park.

Biological Conservation Course starting this fall!
Join us this fall for a unique conservation opportunity. Biological Conservation is a collaboration between St Mary’s University College and CPAWS (Canada Parks & Wilderness Society). It will be co-taught by a St Mary’s faculty member and a conservationist who is a former CPAWS director.

Castle Logging Decision Ignored Fish and Wildlife, and Alberta Public: Environmental Groups
ALBERTA - Newly-released documents reveal that the Alberta government’s decision to go ahead with deeply unpopular clearcut logging in the Castle Special Place, west of Pincher Creek, Alberta – despite widespread public opposition – was made by Forestry staff in a seeming vacuum. Fish and Wildlife staff were given minimal opportunity for input, and documents show that input was ignored. Extensive public opposition to the logging, which saw rallies, a protest camp and even arrests, was also discounted.
