CPAWS OV Response to the NCC Gatineau Park Visitor and Economic Impact Study
The NCC recently released the findings of their Gatineau Park Visitor and Economic Impact Study, conducted from September 2015 to August 2016. The results indicate that Gatineau Park has a significant economic impact on the region, and most users feel conservation and recreation are priorities for the park. Further, over 95% of participants in the survey feel Gatineau Park should be protected for future generations. But many of Gatineau Park's users may be suprised to learn it lacks formal protection. CPAWS-OV believes recreation and ecological integrity can co-exist with the right management strategies. Legislated protection will ensure this national treasure keeps its strong ecological diversity, while producing the economic and social benefits for our communities. Read our response here:

Meet our new intern!
Leah Viau joined our team in May of 2016 as our Road Ecology Technician. She is responsible for coordinating and training our large team of volunteers who are actively collecting data along the region’s road network with a view to help identify “hotspots” – areas of high animal mortality where mitigation measures should be applied. Leah hails from the Ottawa Valley and recently graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She is passionate about the conservation of wildlife and the different ecosystems. She has been learning alongside of Conservation Biologist Elena Kreuzberg, who has been sharing her knowledge to help teach Leah.
