Susan Eaton's commitment to protecting Canada's grizzly bears and spirit bears has earned her the opportunity to bear the torch in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Torch Relay. A volunteer director of the Southern Alberta Chapter of CPAWS, Eaton carried the torch in Airdrie, Alberta, on January 19.

Eaton was selected as a torchbearer through an essay contest by Coca-Cola Canada which celebrated "shining examples of Canadians' commitment to active living and to the environment."

In her winning essay, Susan noted that the CPAWS Southern Alberta chapter won the 2008 Emerald Award for a community-based conservation program that has inspired 65,000 school children to protect southern Alberta's grizzly bears and endangered species.  During the past twenty years, Susan has also been active in campaigns to protect the old growth rainforests of British Columbia's Carmanah Valley, Clayoquot Sound, and the Great Bear Rainforest.
