Take Action!
Thank Premier Doer for standing firm on protecting the east side.
Read the CPAWS news release
We're pleased to announce that the Manitoba government has committed to keep the proposed major hydro corridor away from the intact boreal forest on the east side of Lake Winnipeg. Please send a letter to Premier Gary Doer to let him know how you feel about the province's decision to put communities and conservation first.
This move is critical to maintaining traditional activities for local communities and supporting sustainable economic opportunities like eco and cultural tourism -- two of the fastest growing industries in the world. Keeping Manitoba's east side forests healthy and whole is also paramount to the survival of the area's majestic and threatened woodland caribou.
CPAWS Manitoba commends the provincial government for a job well done.

Are talks still on for an all weather highway up the East side of Lake Winnipeg? If so what impact will moving the hydro corridor really have?
Maybe the government should be looking at accessing remote communities by water (i.e. Lake Winnipeg) and air ships.
