Governor General visits the Nahanni

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond visited the South Nahanni River as a part of their official tour to the Northwest Territories this summer. They enjoyed lunch at Virginia Falls with Deh Cho Grand Chief Herb Norwegian and learned about the importance of protecting the entire South Nahanni watershed.
Following their brief tour, the Governor General and her husband were presented with a mounted Nahanni poster by Daryl Sexsmith, executive director of CPAWS-NWT.
The Governor General was impressed by what she saw and said that the Nahanni deserves protection.
