10 days left to enter “Capture the Wild” photo contest
Calgary, Alberta – The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society Southern Alberta (CPAWS SAB) chapter has launched their “Capture the Wild” photography contest with this year’s theme, “Celebrating Canadian Parks.” The photography contest is designed to raise awareness and funds in support of CPAWS and Alberta’s wilderness conservation.
“This contest enables photographers of all ages to showcase their captivating images of wild spaces, while raising support for southern Alberta conservation initiatives. Award winning photos receive marvellous prizes from our generous sponsors, The Camera Store, Parks Canada, Mountain Equipment Co-op, and Community Natural Foods,” says Anne-Marie Syslak, the chapter’s Executive Director. “Since 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity this photo contest is also a way to capture the variety of life on earth and inspire people to take action.”
“The Camera Store is delighted to support CPAWS\' photo contest, which connects nature photography enthusiasts with wilderness conservation efforts in Alberta,” says Peter Jeune, the owner of the Camera Store. “This contest raises awareness and funds for conservation through the inspiration photographers convey within their artistic images.”
The contest was launched on August 1st and runs until October 23rd, 2010 at midnight. There are five categories that photographers can submit photos to, including Banff 125, which celebrates the 125th anniversary of Banff National Park. The grand prize includes $500 from The Camera Store, the framed winning photograph, as wells as prize packages from Mountain Equipment Co-op and Community Natural Foods.
The winners of the photography contest will be announced at CPAWS National Harkin Award event in Calgary on November 12th, 2010. A silent auction of the award winning photos will take place along with this event.
