October 16 - Cafe Scientifique - Outdoor Education

Our Cafe Scientifique is an informal gathering of people to discuss current science, conservation and environmental issues that affect our communities. On the second Monday of each month, we will discuss a different topic related to biology, conservation, wilderness and our place in the environment.

On October 16, 2017 we will discuss the importance of getting kids outside. Thanksgiving falls on the second Monday in October so we rescheduled the cafe to the following week.

Our key speaker is Kathleen Tanner, is a certified teacher and outdoor education instructor with the Ottawa Carleton district school board (OCDSB). Kathleen has worked for the board for 5 years, exploring in nature and learning along with her students. She will give an overview of her experiences in outdoor education. She will tell the story of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board outdoor education centres, what happens there day to day, and discuss and the value of experiential nature based education.

Our second speaker is Leah Viau, the CPAWS-OV Education Coordinator will discuss CPAWS-OV's growing education program.

Meet at the Fox and the Feather Pub on Elgin st, Ottawa from 7:00-9:00pm, order a drink, grab a bite to eat and engage in discussion on the importance of outdoor education!
