Midnight Snowshoe Challenge
Snowshoe for a good cause!
We all know that snowshoeing is a great workout, but did you know it can help save the places you love? Join CPAWS Ottawa Valley for our first annual Moonlight Snowshoe Challenge on Saturday, March 24th in Gatineau Park. Registrants must commit to raise at least $100.00 each over the next month to support CPAWS campaigns to protect special places in our region, like Gatineau Park and the Dumoine River. After successfully meeting their fundraising goals, participants will join CPAWS Ottawa Valley for an intimate snowshoe excursion in Gatineau Park – through snow capped trees and stopping in the woods for a campfire where a delectable dessert and hot chocolate will be served. You will also have the opportunity to meet CPAWS volunteers and staff and learn about our exciting conservation campaigns and how you can get involved.
Great prizes will be awarded to the participant who raises the most funds for CPAWS and other prizes will be drawn randomly among all participants.
To take part…
In order to take part, simply send an email with your name and telephone number to ov-outreach@cpaws.org or send us a message through our Facebook group to indicate your intention to join us then download the registration and sponsorship form from our website and start collecting donations from friends, family and co-workers! Be sure to bring your completed form and donations collected to the hike. Income tax receipts will be issued for all donations over $20.00. Even if you are unable to attend the actual hike, you may still raise funds and qualify for great prizes!
The hike:
Join us for a 6 km guided, lantern-lit, snowshoe excursion along trail 71 in Gatineau Park’s beautiful Meech Creek Valley. This relatively easy trail will take us through former agricultural lands, into regenerating forests and through some unique old-growth ecosystems. Our guide will point out these and other fascinating features of the park along the hike.
Date: Saturday, March 24th 2012 (Snow or no snow!)
Time: 6:30 PM – 10:30 PM
Location: Gatineau Park Parking lot 15 (100 Cross Loop Road in Chelsea)
What else do I need to know?
CPAWS has a limited number of snowshoes which may be borrowed for the hike. Please contact us in advance to reserve a pair. While dessert and hot chocolate will be served at the camp fire, please bring your own water and light snacks. CPAWS will provide some old-fashioned lanterns to light our way.
