Déline's Vision

Leon and child sawing.jpg"We want to preserve the stories and the land of Sahoyúé - ?ehdacho. Without the land, the stories die. To tell Canadians about our stories requires that the land be healthy. We are guided in this by prophecies from our ancient law maker Yamoria.

Full protection for the lands from where these stories originate will make sure the stories can forever enrich our people and be shared with all Canadians. We wish to share our stories with all Canadians, but we believe the most important way to do this is on the land.

For full surface and subsurface protection of Sahoyúé - ?ehdacho, we are proposing, through the NWT Protected Areas Strategy, a National Historic Site that is acquired and administered by Parks Canada. The National Historic Site would be formed from both Sahtu private lands and Crown Lands. Both the Sahtu people and the Government of Canada would work together to manage the lands according to natural law, Dene law, the laws of Canada and the Sahtu Dene and Metis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement."

This is how the people of Déline wish to see Sahoyúé-?ehdacho protected forever.
