Canadian Wildlife Service sponsors Kwets'oòtl'àà candidate protected area in the Tlîchô region
June 24, 2010Kwets'oòtå'àà, a proposed National Wildlife Area has been accepted for sponsorship by the Canadian Wildlife Service. This proposed area located along the North Arm of Great Slave Lake could protect critical habitat for migrating birds and ducks, as well as Species at Risk including woodland caribou, wood bison, wolverine, rusty blackbird and short-eared owl.
Ecological, cultural and mineral assessment work will begin this summer.
We thank Tåîchô communities for requesting that this area be protected.
