POSITION OVERVIEW

CPAWS-NWT is seeking an Executive Director who will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of our organization.

Collaborative relationships are key to conservation success in the Northwest Territories (NWT). We need an Executive Director who will build and deepen our robust relationships with Aboriginal organizations, decision makers and other partners.
 
Our new Executive Director will be a dedicated, successful leader with a track record of collaborating with diverse parties to work successfully toward shared goals. S/he must be flexible and creative to effectively lead our organization through the changing landscape of complex multi-stakeholder land use and conservation issues. Knowledge of land management systems in the NWT, as well as the economic and cultural contexts in which we work, is essential.

Our Executive Director will help to build the future of the NWT and of CPAWS-NWT. This is a time of great opportunity for conservation in our territory, which is both unprecedented and time-limited.

CPAWS-NWT SUMMARY

The Northwest Territories Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS-NWT) is part of a national non-profit conservation organization dedicated to protecting Canada’s wilderness. CPAWS-NWT’s mission is to conserve the land, water and wildlife in the NWT for current and future generations, by working with NWT residents, governments, communities and organizations.

We carry out our mission by:

We work on a cooperative basis with individuals and organizations and have a wide range of strategies and tactics to implement our large-scale ecological vision for the NWT. These include:

CPAWS-NWT presently has one full-time and one part-time staff member and an annual budget of $380,000. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and staff members report to the Executive Director.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the direction of a Board of Directors, the Executive Director will direct the planning, implementation, and communication of CPAWS-NWT’s work by fulfilling the responsibilities outlined below.
