Baleen makes a splash in Newfoundland on World Oceans Day

Baleen made a huge splash at the World Oceans Day celebrations in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador this past weekend. With over 2000 participants stopping by the Marine Institute, Baleen was greeted by many excited and enthusiastic children and adults eager to learn about our oceans, as she made her way through the busy waves of visitors and exhibitors.

Baleen was super happy to be involved in CPAWS NL Oceans Day Celebrations and we were happy to have her join us and our partners for our 5th anniversary of this fun-filled family event! As our event continues to grow each year in fun, size and enthusiasm, we were thrilled to have Baleen join us to provide an extra “hump” of entertainment.  Baleen captured many hugs and smiles and made many new friends, including WWF’s Panda.

Baleen also took some time to catch a game of soccer during her visit.  She loved playing goalie in the net but don’t be mistaken that’s the only net Baleen likes to be in!  We have to be careful she doesn’t get caught in any nets as she makes her journey across Canada.

As an island, Newfoundland and Labrador is surrounded by the ocean and in the summer months is home to the migrating humpback whale, so Baleen fit in perfectly amongst all her new friends.
