Baleen’s summer vacation

Baleen, our friendly humpback whale mascot, made her way into the Bay of Fundy to join the CPAWS New Brunswick crew this summer. Her goal was to see all of New Brunswick’s coastal provincial parks and she succeeded!

Her first stop was at New River Beach Provincial Park located on the Bay of Fundy. She arrived on the beach in time to help CPAWS NB and Nature NB with Park’s Day activities. Baleen met many new friends, played some nature games (and learned a little too) and explored the beach to see what wildlife could be found from the ocean. Some found the ocean a little too cold that day, but it was the perfect temperature for Baleen!

Next up was Herring Cove Provincial Park, also located on the Bay of Fundy on Campobello Island. Baleen went down for an overnight trip to visit campers and participate in more nature fun! First there was a guided nature walk and then some fun in the ocean with the seine net- learning about marine wildlife. Baleen had a great time on the island.

A week later, Baleen was on the road to visit Parlee Beach Provincial Park and Murray Beach Provincial Park – both located on the Gulf of the Saint Lawrence. Her day at Parlee was filled with more beach fun, from critter dipping in a pond, educating the public on common marine species, to having a nature scavenger hunt. Murray Beach was next and Baleen helped welcome folks to the park for another day of ocean activities. Baleen went on a beach walk and witnessed many new beach goers experience the ocean for the first time – what an experience!

It’s safe to say that Baleen had a wonderful time in New Brunswick exploring and promoting the Dare to be Deep Campaign and the importance of marine protected areas. CPAWS NB was sad to see her go but wish her well on her next adventure!
