Award Season Recognizes CPAWS

I shouldn’t be surprised that Nik Lopouhkine has won the prestigious international Fred Packard Award for Outstanding Service as a result of his lifetime of contributions to conservation on a global scale. It is, nevertheless, a huge honour for this highly regarded leader to be recognized by peers from around the world for his work. CPAWS is thrilled to have Nik on our National Board of Trustees over the last few years and he’s also recently worked alongside our Ottawa-Valley chapter as part of his continued post-retirement work.

We knew about the incredible contribution to advancing conservation that Nik has made over the years when we recognized him with the J.B. Harkin Award in 2012. We’ve been thrilled to have him work so closely with CPAWS in the subsequent years. Nik is a tireless champion who isn’t afraid to say what needs to be said in the name of conservation.

CPAWS also celebrated the recognition of our Southern Alberta chapter’s education program at the Canadian Network of Environmental Education and Communication’s annual conference. Our Southern Alberta chapter was presented the EECOM Award of Excellence for their engagement of thousands of students and teachers each year. The education program offered by the chapter is a source of great pride for the nationwide CPAWS family. If you’d like to contribute to the program, click here.

As the National Director of CPAWS, it is such a pleasure to receive the kind of recognition of our team’s work that we’ve had. But don’t worry… we won’t rest on our laurels for too long… there is much more work for us to do!
