One simple question to ask candidates

Whether we like it or not, the federal election campaign is in full swing as the country prepares to go to the polls on May 2nd.

As candidates make their rounds and engage with their constituents, we suggest that you ask them one simple question:
If elected, will you support protection of at least half of Canada’s land and water?

Find out where your politicians stand on wilderness conservation and make your environmental concerns a priority.

Here a few things to check out while you're visiting:

  • Take action!  In response to a CPAWS campaign, thousands of people wrote letters supporting the creation of  a new National Park in the Nahanni headwaters of the NWT.  Today, the park is quickly becoming a reality. Writing a letter, attending a meeting, or signing a petition really can spur conservation success. Visit the action centre to find out what campaigns we're working on, and get involved.
  • Stay up to date: 40,000 people subscribe to our email list for updates on conservation news and actions across Canada. You can join them -- just fill out the Subscription box to the right of this article (or if you're reading this article elsewhere, visit
  • Find out what's new near you:  13 CPAWS chapters across the country are spearheading local campaigns.  Check out our chapter sites to learn more about local campaigns, volunteering, and other opportunities.
