Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator


Reporting to the Executive Director, the volunteer coordinator will be the primary point of contact for new and existing volunteers, and will support the implementation of the volunteer program. This can include recruiting and training new volunteers, managing communications with volunteers, scheduling volunteers for outreach events, supervising in-office volunteers, and integrating volunteers into the organization’s day-to-day work. The volunteer coordinator will directly contribute to increasing CPAWS’ capacity to protect Canada’s wilderness by increasing organizational resources and supporting on-the-ground conservation outreach programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

The volunteer coordinator will:

  • Identify and organize potential events for CPAWS outreach activities (eg. outreach table, collecting signatures/canvassing, etc.)
  • Be responsible for booking, set-up and clean-up of outreach tables at events
  • Recruit and schedule volunteers for outreach events
  • Interview and match new volunteers with tasks and projects
  • Provide orientation/training to new volunteers
  • Coordinate volunteers for individual projects
  • Respond to volunteer inquiries in timely manner
  • Maintain volunteer contact database


  • Volunteer coordination/HR experience an asset
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Word, Excel and Outlook

Time Period

This position requires a minimum 6-month commitment for 4-8 hours per week during regular
business hours that can be completed from home or in the CPAWS office. The volunteer coordinator
must also be available for occasional evening and weekend outreach events.
